AMME Mexico is a contemporary design house working at the intersection of architecture, craft and material honesty. We design and produce limited-edition furniture, lighting and objects together with master artisans across Oaxaca, Michoacán, Chiapas and Puebla — pieces that carry the memory of a territory and the precision of a modern studio.
01 — About the house
Founded in a converted print workshop in Mexico City's Colonia Roma, AMME Mexico began as a small research studio asking a single question: what happens when you treat traditional Mexican craft with the rigour of contemporary design?
Sixteen years later, that question still guides everything we make. We do not buy "artisanal" products from a catalogue. We sit with the people who make them — potters, weavers, carpenters, stone carvers — and we work for months to develop a single object together. The result is a collection that refuses the false choice between heritage and modernity, between the hand and the machine.
Every piece is produced in a numbered series, signed by the atelier that made it, and accompanied by a document that names the material, the technique, the region and the artisan. We believe transparency is a form of respect — for the maker, for the buyer, and for the landscape that supplies us.
Our work lives in private homes, boutique hotels and cultural institutions across Europe, North America and Asia. We ship worldwide from Mexico City, with a production model that keeps 68% of the retail value inside the communities where the pieces are made.

Each collection begins with a material and a place. We never start from a sketch of a shape; we start from what the land gives us, and we design backwards from there.
Collection I

Collection II
Sculptural lighting where blown glass meets hand-hammered copper and natural linen. Every diffuser is shaped by breath, which means no two are identical — and no two ever will be. Warm, generous, quiet light.
Collection III
Tableware and vessels thrown by hand in the valleys of Oaxaca, fired in wood kilns and glazed with mineral pigments sourced within fifty kilometres of the wheel. Food-safe, dishwasher-friendly, quietly imperfect.
Collection IV
Rugs, throws and upholstery fabrics woven on pedal looms from Chiapas highland wool and naturally dyed cotton. Colours come from indigo, cochineal and pericón — never from synthetics, never from shortcuts.
Collection V
Full custom programmes for hotels, restaurants and private residences: from a single commissioned console to a hundred-room lighting specification. We handle design, sampling, production, quality control and international freight.
Collection VI
A rotating selection of discontinued and one-off pieces from our sixteen-year history. Small quantities, occasional experiments, and the odd beautiful mistake that we could not bear to throw away.
03 — Process
Our process is slow on purpose. Most collections take between fourteen and thirty months from first visit to final delivery. Here is roughly how it works.
We travel to the communities we want to work with before we have any design in mind. We spend days watching, asking questions and understanding what a technique can and cannot do. The brief is written afterwards, never before.
Every material is traced to its source — a specific forest, quarry, clay bed or flock. We test for stability, finish, ageing behaviour and repairability, and we document the results so that the same piece can be remade faithfully years later.
Our studio and the artisan workshop draw together. Designers learn the constraints of the bench; makers learn why a proportion matters. This back-and-forth is where the real design happens, and it usually takes several months.
Three to five physical prototypes are built for every final piece. Nothing is approved from a drawing. If a prototype does not feel right in the hand, in the room, in daylight, it goes back to the bench — without argument.
Approved pieces are produced in small numbered series, usually ten to forty units per run. Each workshop sets its own pace. We do not rush production, because rushing is exactly how craft becomes manufacturing.
Every object leaves with a certificate naming its material, region, technique and maker. We handle crating, export documentation and international freight, and we stay reachable for repairs and restoration for the life of the piece.
